Opening Reception, Friday, April 4th 6-9pm
On display through April 27th, Thu-Sun, 12-3pm or by appointment
The work of St. Louis-based painter Steve Kelly explores the collision between the natural world and the so-called human world. His paintings explore the absurdity of that distinction. These playful and vibrant pictures coax viewers to look more closely at their connection and impact on the natural world and their relationship to it. His paintings will be shown at The Bridge from April 4th -27th, with an opening reception on Friday, April 4th.
Steve Kelly received his BFA in painting from the University of Montana. For nearly 15 years, he has been a valuable member of the St. Louis arts and media community. Steve is a media professional, a documentary producer, artist and educator. Steve is also the Program Director of St. Cecilia Academy, a small catholic school in the latino community of St. Louis.
In addition to the exhibition of his paintings at The Bridge, Steve Kelly will also be conducting a youth workshop to complete a site-specific collaborative mural; the workshop will begin on Tuesday, March 25 with local poet John Casteen, and will continue with Kelly on April 2nd and 3rd. The goal of the workshop is to complete a 6′ x 8′ collaborative mural at the Bridge as part of the exhibition. Steve has a great deal of experience working with inner-city and minority youth over the years. The overall focus of the workshop and mural will be upon the themes of Identity and the Natural World. The completed mural will be on display April 4th - 27th along with Steve’s paintings.
