“If I do this 3,599 more times then can I go home?”

In 1958 John Cage held a composition seminar exploring the use of text as musical notation. The tactics and strategies developed in this seminar found their way into the music, dance, theater and visual art of the 1960’s. This lecture will explore the origins and uses of text scores through fragmented rhetorical gestures and performance. We will not attempt to provide any answers only experiences. Any knowledge gained will be purely accidental. Though participation is not required it will hopefully be hard to resist.
